Amazing Jungle bike experience

For all bicycle lovers, Wakax Hacienda offers a riding adventure that will surely be very different from what you are used to. Join us on our Jungle Bike Experience through the Hacienda’s estate where you will immerse yourself in it’s beautiful jungle, learn about the Mayan culture and way of life, and go for a swim in a breathtaking cenote. In this activity you will first learn about the Mayan jungle’s unique particularities and get to know some of it’s different trees and plants. Also, and depending on the season (and the luck….) you may get to see some of the amazing fauna that inhabits our property.

This ride will take you through 5 miles of pristine jungle environment and it will include two 40 min stops: One at the Hacienda’s Mayan Village, to show you all about the mayan people’s culture and their ancestral way of life, and another at the beautiful cenote, for a refreshing swim in its crystal clear blue waters. At the end of the swim we will offer fresh fruit and refreshments to the participants, before heading back towards the Hacienda.

Specifications

  • Minimum age 12.
  • Must be able to ride a bicycle with ease.
  • Use of appropriate footwear for bicycle. Sandals are ok, but only with back ankle straps.
  • Removal of creams, oils, lotions or insect repellents is mandatory before swimming in the cenote.
  • This activity lasts about 2 hrs and you must be in good physical condition to participate in it.

Underground river experience

Undoubtedly, Wakax Hacienda’s best kept secret is our amazing Underground River Experience. In this 45 min adventure we will take you on an astonishing swimming journey through a beautiful semi-flodded cavern, where you will enjoy breathtaking views of spectacular ancient geological formations (stalactites, stalagmites, etc…) among pristine transparent blue waters. Here, you will learn about the unique and rare wild life that inhabits the underground river systems of the Yucatan Peninsula (the biggest in the world…), and why they are considered the “world’s capital” for cave diving.

Also, you will find out why these semi-flooded caves were, and are still, considered sacred places for the mayan people, and how crucial these rivers were in the development of their civilization and cosmology. And last, but not least, you will experience first hand why the Yucatan Peninsula is the best, and only, place in the world where you can do this type of water “spelunking” adventure at the ultimate level.

  • Only good swimmers allowed.
  • Use of lifejacket and helmet is required.
  • Use of water shoes is optional.
  • Not recommended for people with claustrophobia.

  • No cameras or cell phones allowed.
  • You must be in good physical condition to participate in this activity.

Water Activities - El Cocal

All of our other water activities are located at “El Cocal”, which is the main lake located along the entrance road to the Hacienda. Here you will find single and double kayaks, paddle boards, and small boats, that you can take on a rowing adventure through the lake. After this, you can relax on our beautiful sun deck or go for a refreshing swim on the lake. In any case, El Cocal is the perfect place to do some rowing activities, or just hang out or sunbathe next to the water.

Specifications

  • Minimum age to use rowing equipment 12 years.
  • There is no lifeguard on duty so swim at your own risk.
  • Children under 12 must wear a life jacket, and must be supervised by an adult at all times.
  • Removal of body creams, oils, lotions or insect repellents is mandatory before entering the water.
